I have been playing strategy and role playing games for 20+ years now. A more recent variant on these activities is online games and play by posts (where you post your actions by email). I have actually been doing this for 7 or 8 years now.
One of the really strange things I have noticed is that guys who play these types of games online have a real tendency to want to play female characters. What the hell is up with that? I have one player who has played dungeons and dragons with us for about six years, and he will play a chick about 85% of the time. I am also currently in an Age of Appocolypse play by post game where several of the players are playing female characters. Another D&D player who has been part of our group for about 7 ½ years also will play female about 50% of the time, and one guy who has been with my D&D group from the beginning has recently started playing female characters as well.
Are these guys are fruits? Are they “gay and don’t know it”? What is the reason behind this? I just find it curious that this occurs in this particular genre of gaming with such frequency. Can anybody explain it?
